IWUA honors M.V. contributors

BOISE, Idaho -- Three Idahoans were named to the Idaho Water Users Association Hall of Fame in ceremonies held Wednesday during the Association's 68th annual convention in Boise.

Several other individuals and organizations were also honored by IWUA with special recognition for their efforts, performance and service in water-related activities.

The three individuals named to the IWUA Hall of Fame were cited for their long and distinguished service in a variety of important water related-activities. They are: Jerry Nance of Dietrich; Cecil Blauer of Burley; Russell Woolley of Jerome.

John Keyes, Commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, was presented the IWUA Presidents Award. The Association's Water Statesman Award went to Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne.

The New Sweden Irrigation District of Idaho Falls and the North Side Canal Company were named as winners of the Association's Water Guardian small and large organization honor respectively.

Four people were honored as outstanding employees. They were: Ron Kiester of Homedale with the Owyhee Project South Board of Control; Dan Preston of Lewiston with the Lewiston Orchards Irrigation District; E. Faye Russell, former secretary treasurer of the Boise Kuna Irrigation District; and Mazel Hammond of Rupert with the Minidoka Irrigation District

  

Robert L. Simpson of Carey, manager of the Little Wood River Irrigation District, was presented with the IWUA Water Management Award.

Gayle Batt, a former staff member of the Association, was honored with IWUA's Outstanding Service Award.

"These award winners, both individuals and organizations, truly all reflect the highest standards of service to Idaho in the areas of water
  

management, irrigation and personal dedication to the Idaho water user community and the public at large," said Norm Semanko, IWUA executive director.
