Fremont County takes another shot at farmland development rule
ST. ANTHONY, Idaho (AP) — Officials in Fremont County will take another shot at an ordinance making it easier to build homes on farm land in the county.
Commissioners voted Monday to repeal an amendment passed in June allowing a developer to build one home per 2½ acres. That marked a change from previous rules allowing just one home per 40 acres.
The commission also instructed the planning and zoning department to submit a new set of guidelines for the ordinance.
Commissioners say they changed course after considering public frustration over the new rule and threats of a lawsuit.
Earlier this year, The Smart Growth Coalition filed a lawsuit against the county, alleges the ordinance would increase noise and traffic, destroy wildlife habitat and diminish the county’s scenic and rural beauty.
