Summer shows jumpstart Idaho Junior Showpig Association
![]() |
FILER. Idaho - Although the Idaho Junior Showpig Association is a new group, it’s already attracting many southern Idaho youth.
The association, created by pig breeders of the Idaho Showpig Association, was put together earlier this year to award Idaho youth for participation in the statewide exhibition of swine events.
"We already have thirty-two kids signed up so far and for our first year, we think that’s pretty good," said Association coordinator Christy Adams of Oakley.
Adams said any youth under age 19 can sign up as a member, for a $25 annual fee. Participants showing pigs during the summer circuit of events in Gooding, Boise, Filer, Mini-Cassia, and Blackfoot will accumulate points based on their top-three show rankings.
At the end of the circuit, the grand champion pig exhibitioner will receive a $500 cash prize. Awards will also be given to top showman in each of three age categories.
Besides multiple chances to shine in the ring, the association aims to provide educational and skill-building opportunities to enhance youth knowledge of the industry.
