Train cuts off farmer’s tractor - literally
DEWEYVILLE, Utah (AP) - A Box Elder County farmer had a scary moment when a speeding locomotive tore off the front of his $80,000 tractor.
Curtis Norr of Deweyville was at a private track crossing without safety arms, but it had flashing lights and an alarm bell.
Chief sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Potter says that from his cab, the farmer was a few feet away from getting hit by the locomotive early Monday.
It wasn’t the first time. Another Deweyville farmer who crossed in front of a train on the same tracks April 25 had the counterbalance weights ripped off the front of his tractor.
Authorities say farmers can become complacent driving tractors across the Union Pacific line because they do it so often.
The Box Elder County attorney’s office is taking a look at the latest mishap for possible traffic citations.
