11 Idaho 4-H Members Selected For National 4-H Congress at Atlanta

MOSCOW, Idaho - Eight 4-H youths from across Idaho will travel to Atlanta to participate in the annual National 4-H Congress Nov. 28 to Dec. 2.
The National 4-H Congress delegates will attend workshops and participate in service projects. They will hear from Dan Clark, the primary contributing author to the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series of books and the author of 20 of his own books.
The Idaho youths are members of the nation’s best known youth leadership development program, which is operated by University of Idaho Extension in partnership with extension offices in 42 of the state’s 44 counties. This year 36,069 youths and nearly 4,000 volunteers participated in 4-H.
The delegates will tour Atlanta-area sites such as the CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park, the Carter Presidential Library and the Martin Luther King Center for Non-violent Change.
Donors who helped the youths attend the congress included the Idaho 4-H Endowment Board, Idaho Youth Horse Council, Idaho Wool Growers Association, Idaho Pork Producers Association and Idaho State 4-H Leaders Association.
This year’s delegates come from communities across Idaho, including Athol, Boise, Caldwell, Jerome, Post Falls, Rigby and St. Maries. The delegates are:
Ashley Arts of Athol, the daughter of Geert and Lisa Arts, and a 10-year member of 4-H. She participated in swine, goat, gardening, sheep, ceramics, dairy, citizenship and leadership projects. She graduated from Lakeland High School in Rathdrum and is attending the American Institute of Clinical Massage in Post Falls.
Jake Schmidt of Boise, the son of Tom and Mary Schmidt, and a seven-year member of 4-H. He participated in outdoors, leadership, citizenship, theater, car restoration, horse and home economics projects. He is a sophomore at Bishop Kelly High School in Boise.
Megan Buxton of Caldwell, the daughter of Edward and Debra Buxton, and a seven-year member of 4-H. She participated in leadership, citizenship, horse, dog, cavy, rabbit, sewing, and photography projects. She is a junior at Vallivue High School in Caldwell.
John Gardner of Jerome, the son of Jay and Terri Gardner, a nine-year 4-H member. He participated in citizenship, mechanical, outdoor education, clothing and textiles, foods and nutrition, aerospace and consumer education projects. He is a senior at Jerome High School and plans to graduate in May.
Suzi Berger of Post Falls, the daughter of Jeff and Beth Berger, and an 11-year member of 4-H. She participated in sheep, swine, goat, beef, horse, dog projects in addition to others in expressive arts, home economics and teen leadership. She is a high school junior and is home schooled.
Theresa Ost of Post Falls, the daughter of Richard and Kerri Ost, and a 12-year member of 4-H. She participated in vet science and market sheep, swine and beef projects, in addition to others in expressive arts, home economics, horse and dog. A home-schooled student, she plans to complete high school this spring.
Melissa Cook of Rigby, the daughter of Brian and Becky Cook, and a nine-year member of 4-H. She participated in horse, sheep, swine, goat, citizenship and home economics projects. She is a junior at Rigby High School.
Jordan Lockard of St. Maries, the son of Tim and Cheryl Lockard, and an eight-year member of 4-H. He participated in sheep, beef, horse, leadership, and foods and nutrition projects. He is a junior at Kootenai High School in Harrison.
