Honey producers, commission to meet in Boise

Boise The annual Honey Producers and Honey Commission meeting and workshop will be held De-cember 4-6, 2008, at the Red Lion Downtowner, 1800 Fairview Avenue.

The meeting will begin with an informal reception and at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 4th. The full meeting begins on Friday, December 5th. During the two-day event, presentations and discussion about bee health and nutrition, Nosema ceranae - a honey bee parasite linked to Colony Collapse Disorder - the lack of genetic diversity in the U.S. honeybee population, and Florida’s experience with Africanized hon-eybees.

Guest speakers include Randy Oliver from Grass Valley, California, who has taught beekeeping for years and writes for popular bee magazines, Jerry Hayes from Florida State University who writes the “Class-room” feature in the American Bee Journal, and Sue Coby from the University of California at Davis. Sue is considered one of the world’s most renowned bee insemination and breeding authorities and instructors.

The event will culminate Saturday, December 6th with a workshop for beekeeper hobbyists.
