Potato Growers of Idaho to hold annual meeting

BLACKFOOT, Idaho - The Potato Growers of Idaho will hold its annual meeting Dec. 10 at the Red Lion Hotel in Pocatello, starting at 11:30. All Idaho potato growers are invited to attend and participate in the informative program that is planned.
“PGI has a long history of informing growers of important issues relating to the potato industry,” said James Hoff, PGI vice president, “we invite all PGI growers come and get some valuable information to help on your farms.”
The keynote lunch speaker will be John Revier, deputy chief of staff for Congressman Mike Simpson. John is an experienced staffer with Congressman Simpson, where he has worked on ag issues prior to his appointment as deputy chief of staff. John’s topic will be “Perspective on the New Congress and President.” Time will be allowed for questions.
Following lunch growers will learn about changes in the farm bill that affect their farms, including crop insurance, disaster programs, and changes in conservation programs. Dave Ogden from the Idaho State Department of Agriculture will present plans for a rewrite of the Produce Dealer’s Law to give growers a chance to decide if they want to support the effort to rewrite the law. Major water issues that affect growers will be discussed and Todd Cornelison, industry relations director for the Idaho Potato Commission, will report on the progress of the commission’s ag affairs committee.
PGI will report on the Idaho Potato Industry Political Action Committee, which was reorganized this summer to include the Idaho Grower Shippers Association. To cap off the afternoon PGI members will hold the annual business meeting and elect board members for the coming year. The will be no charge for the lunch or meeting.
